I love being a global nomad! Since leaving New York City in 2010 I’ve been lucky enough to experience different cultures in Asia, Africa and Europe. I embrace a minimalist lifestyle; traveling with my laptop, one carryon and one checked bag. Naturally, this constraint leads to consuming less, which supports my efforts to be respectful of our planet’s limited resources. Everything I own and carry around the world has to have a purpose and it’s best if it has more than one.

My newest jewelry line is born from a synthesis of these passions. Each geometric minimalist design can be worn in three or more ways as:
a ring: on multiple fingers thanks to different band sizes, and with some designs, across two fingers
a pendant: hanging from either side’s circle(s) or through the circle(s) of both sides
and a mismatched earring.

In addition to the awesome versatility of my minimalist geometric statement jewelry, there are more reasons they’re green:

Each piece is 3D printed one at a time. Generally, there is less waste in 3D printing than traditional manufacturing and there is no surplus to be stored or eventually discarded.

Secondly, I ship directly from my 3D printing partner to you, my Etsy client. Since I’m not shipping from the manufacturer, to myself, and then to you, we save the packaging and fuel of one leg of the journey. Now, this does mean that my designs don’t come in uber cute or quirky wrapping. I know unboxing a particularly well-presented product is fun, but a lot less cardboard and plastic enters the system by skipping this step. Your beautiful Sloris sterling silver or gold-plated jewelry will come in a black velvet pouch that will help protect against tarnishing.

ME AND SLORIS:

Sloris is a boutique design firm driven by my creativity as a fine artist. I love to travel and have lived in Mexico, Thailand, Spain, Italy, Tunisia, Croatia, Macedonia and Albania. When I’m moving frequently, it’s difficult to oil paint because of the long drying time. Designing jewelry and fashion accessories is a great creative outlet during this period. Making wearable art allows me to reach a wider audience and I love seeing my designs out and about around the world!

CURIOUS ABOUT THE NAME SLORIS?

I was playing a game of one-on-one basketball with my husband on a particularly hot and humid day in Thailand. I had recently fallen in love with an awesome creature known as the slow loris. It was on my mind as I lazily dribbled outside the three-point line, catching my breath. At the right moment, I faked left then drove right and made the layup. Just like a slow loris, whose generally languid behavior is occasionally interspersed with fast movements, I tend to move at a relaxed pace, but when it’s crucial, I burst into rapid action. That’s when I combined slow and loris and dubbed myself a sloris.

Here’s my definition:

Sloris[slawr-is, IPA /ˈslɔrɪs/ ] noun, verb, adverb - slorisly, adjective – slorissing)

1. to act in a slow and methodical manner the majority of the time, but having the ability to move with great speed as necessary

2. a reduction of the mammal’s name slow loris
